Digital Photography Composition Tips
Rule of Thirds
The Rule of Thirds is an easy to learn digital photography composition tip to make your photos more pleasing to the eye. By changing the framing of your photo just a little to follow the rule, your pictures will become stunning masterpieces. Many great artists have followed these guidlines to create visual impact and a 'beauty' to their art. And it's easy to learn. You draw two imaginary vertical lines and two horizontal lines through your picture. They are equally spaced and centered in the frame. Divide your photo into 'thirds' both horizontally and vertically. The photo below is an example of what the grid should look like.

All you have to do is put the important part of you scene on one of the lines, or better yet, where they intersect. Many cameras can display these lines for you on their screen which makes it even easier. Quite often it is called ‘Grid’ view. So next time you are camping at a lake with a mountain in the background, take a picture putting the lake shore on the bottom horizontal line, and the tops of the mountains on the top line. Now pose your partner on the vertical line (not too far away) and you have a great travel shot. See my

There you go – Composition 101 in a nutshell. But remember, Rules are meant to be broken. Nothing is the substitute for your eye. If it doesn't look quite right, it probably isn't. Happy Shooting!
